Hannah Kent

This month I had the pleasure of speaking with the talented Hannah Kent about her most recent novel Devotion. Hannah’s writing is known for its lyricism. Her prose has been described as transcendental. But Hannah’s novels are also page-turners so I was really keen to talk to her about how she blends her love of language and landscape with pacing and tension which she went into some detail about.

In this episode we also talked about how she writes her way into the voice of her characters, her love of writing landscape, her first draft process, the editing process and her writing practice. 

ABOUT HANNAH

Hannah’s first novel was the international bestseller, Burial Rites which was translated into over 30 languages and won the ABIA Literary Fiction Book of the Year among many other awards and shortlistings all over the world. Her second novel The Good People was also widely acclaimed and I have no doubt that her third novel, Devotion, will be equally lauded and awarded.

Hannah co-founded the Australian literary publication Kill Your Darlings, and has written for numerous publications both here and overseas.

Hannah has also written a screenplay for a feature film called Run Rabbit Run which will be released later this year, directed by Daina Reid and starring Sarah Snook. Very exciting and really, just confirming there is no end to Hannah’s writing talents.
